Giant Clam (ボス・クランボー, Bosu Kuranbō in Japan), also known as Colossal Clambo, is the boss of the world Kremlantis of the Donkey Kong Island, as well as the second boss overall in the game Donkey Kong Land. The large Clambo boss can be found in the level Seabed Showdown, preceded by Swirlwind Storm and followed by Pot Hole Panic.

Overview[]

The boss arena is inside sunken temple ruins. Giant Clam attacks by spitting pearls and can move around between the center and corners of the arena, unlike regular Clambos, but never reaching the edges of it. Despite the boss always moving away from the Kongs by swimming towards the opposite side of the location, they must avoid direct contact with the Giant Clam. In order for Donkey and Diddy Kong to harm the boss, they must lure Giant Clam to shoot pearls at them, and make them to hit single smaller Clambos appearing at the corners of the screen. The projectile will defeat the small enemies and bounce back to Giant Clam. The small Clambos cannot harm the primates upon contact. After each successful attack, the boss will move quicker. Giant Clam must be hit a total of eight times in order to be defeated.

After Giant Clam is taken down, three banana bunches will drop down from the top of the screen, and the heroes can move on to the world Monkey Mountains and Chimpanzee Clouds.

Trivia[]

  • In the game Donkey Kong Land, there is a large statue resembling Giant Clam (or regular Clambos from the game Donkey Kong Country) at the lower right corner of the world map of Kremlantis.
    • Considering how regular Clambos from the game Donkey Kong Country and Giant Clam are very similar in design, each of them possessing two eyes and a tongue, and opening their shells horizontally, the official artwork for the boss is just a repurposed artwork for the regular enemies in Donkey Kong Country (see Gallery section above).
  • Giant Clam is the first boss in the Donkey Kong series to be faced by the Kongs while underwater during the entire battle.
