Adjacent Worlds[]

Description[]

This world's stages are lava-themed, complete with lava rivers, volcano backgrounds, and even sunken ships in the boiling water. The Kongs must navigate through dangerous lava caves. There are also mine shafts filled with gems that the Kremling Krew appear to be mining.

Stages[]

Hot-Head Hop[]

Hot-Head Hop is the seventh stage overall of Donkey Kong Country 2, and the first stage of Crocodile Cauldron. The stage takes place inside a lava cave, and the Kongs must use Krocheads as stepping stones in order to cross rivers of lava. This stage also marks Squitter the Spider's first appearance, and the Animal Buddy will prove himself useful for reaching high places and able to clear Bonus Rooms, as well as collecting the DK Coin. Klampons make their debut here as well. Other enemies include Neeks, green Klobbers and yellow Zingers.

Kannon's Klaim[]

Kannon's Klaim is the second stage of Crocodile Cauldron. This is the first stage to take place inside a mine shaft. The featured enemies here are none other than Kannons, who will be a persistent threat throughout the stage. The main means of transportation through the stage are barrel cannons. Mini-Neckies also mark their return from the original Donkey Kong Country game. Diddy & Dixie Barrels, exclusive autofire barrels to characters, are first employed here. The mine is also home to several Neeks, Flitters, yellow Zingers and Klomps.

Lava Lagoon[]

Lava Lagoon is the third stage of Crocodile Cauldron. This stage takes place in the cargo hold of a crashed galleon. Although it is flooded with water, the heat from the surrounding volcanoes causes the water to be boiling hot. Fortunately, Clapper the Seal is around to cool down the water to an acceptable temperature for the Kongs. However, the water will not keep cool forever, so the heroes cannot waste any time while swimming. Puftups, inflatable fish enemies, make their debut here. The stage is also populated by Klampons, Flotsams, Lockjaws and Click-Clacks.

Red-Hot Ride[]

Red-Hot Ride takes place within another lava cave, but unlike in Hot-Head Hop, solid ground is hard to come by. The primates must cross the lava by riding atop hot air balloons, which are exclusive to this stage. The Kongs must be careful though, as the balloons will slowly descend into the lava unless they are on top of the columns of hot gases found throughout the stage. Rambi the Rhinoceros can also be found and used throughout the first half of the stage. Klobbers, Flitters, blue Krunchas and yellow Zingers are all be found here.

Squawks's Shaft[]

Squawks's Shaft, as the title implies, takes place inside a mine shaft, and Squawks the Parrot can be found throughout the second half, making his first playable appearance. Krooks also make their first appearance in this stage. Other enemies include Klomps, Kannons, yellow and red Zingers, Klampons and Mini-Neckies.

Kleever's Kiln[]

The area guardian of Crocodile Cauldron, Diddy and Dixie Kong face off with Kleever, a giant, possessed sword. The heroes must evade the boss' fireballs and flee from its swing attacks. By throwing Kannonballs at the boss, the Kongs can damage the sword. After receiving a total of six hits, Kleever will break into pieces and the heroes will receive a Kremkoin.

The next world of the Crocodile Isle, Krem Quay, will also become accessible after the boss is defeated.

Profiles[]

"Visitors venturing onto Crocodile Isle receive a warm reception from the bubbling lava of Crocodile Cauldron. The key to these levels is to avoid getting burned in the ever-present red-hot lava. Fortunately, there are many different ways to keep your feet cool: crocodile heads provide safe stepping stones in one area, and hot-air balloons will give you a ride in another."
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest Instruction Booklet (SNES version), page 20
"Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire! The lava pools and gas jets of this volcano are source of heat and power for the Kremlings and an endless source of frustation for you!"
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest Player's Guide (SNES version), page 20
"Leave it to the good Kaptain to plant his headquarters on a dangerous volcanic island! Besides the scores of enemies, you'll have to deal with seething lava pits and boiling underground lakes. Though the stages aren't timed, many of the situations demand that you make a move within a few moments or disaster will strike. At other times, there may be several bonus items in front of you, but no way to collect all of them safely. There may be no single correct move, but what you do may mean the difference between being able to afford advice, playing Klubba's toll or gaining some extra lives. The choice is yours, matey!"

Trivia[]

  • In the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy Advance versions of the game Donkey Kong Country 2, it is the first world to feature a Klubba's Kiosk. However, in the latter version, the location of Klubba is moved forward to be after reaching the boss stage.
  • There are green and brown Krocheads in the SNES version of the game Donkey Kong Country 2. However, in the GBA version of the same game, they can be found only in green and red colors, respectively.
