The game takes place on Donkey Kong's birthday, coinciding the fact that this is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the game Donkey Kong Country. It's the latest game in the Donkey Kong series so far.
A port to the Nintendo Switch of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was released in Japan on May 3, 2018, and worldwide on May 4, 2018.
Plot[]
The story begins with a party at Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong's Treehouse, where the Kongs are celebrating Donkey Kong's birthday as one of the balloons flies out of the treehouse and over the sea, where a fleet of Snowmad ships are stationed. Far away from the island, a Pointy Tuck locates the balloon and then spots the tree house and relays info to their silhouetted leader who nods. Some Tucks bring him a horn which he blows, creating a large amount of wind, as well as an Ice Dragon.
Just as he is about to blow the candles out, Donkey Kong notices a mysterious snowflake appear and put out the candle on his birthday cake. He turns away with an angry look on his face and he and his friends exit the house. The Ice Dragon from earlier flies toward Donkey Kong Island, freezing the sea below it. The primates are then blown away from the island by the dragon's intense winds. Afterwards, the warship of the fleet stations itself where the Volcano is and the Snowmads invade Donkey Kong Island for their own, turning it into a frozen region which only they can inhabit.
After landing on the Lost Mangroves island and traversing across five islands, with each posing its own threats, as well as treasures, the Kongs finally return to the Donkey Kong Island. The heroes make their way up the frozen island until they encounter the leader of the Snowmads, Lord Fredrik, The Snowmad King. He challenges the primates to a final battle deep in the blistering core of the volcano. After a long battle, the Kongs deliver the final punch to Lord Fredrik, which sends him flying out through the entirety of the Snowmad’s galleon, splitting it in half, causing it to fall. The primates wander out of the remains of the ship and look out from the mountainside to see the end of Lord Fredrik's fall, which he slams into the remaining Snowmad ships, defeating them. Donkey Kong then notices the horn that was used to freeze the island, which he grabs and blows into, producing a wave of flowers that carries the him and the rest of the heroes to the bottom of the island. The Kongs watch and rejoice as the breeze of the flowers flutter around the island, melting all of the ice and snow, restoring Donkey Kong Island back to its original state and ending the current adventure.
