Funky's Flights is the location of a travel service for accessing the overworld maps and operated by Funky Kong in the games Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Land 2.
History[]
Donkey Kong Country[]
In the game Donkey Kong Country, dropping in at Funky's nearest hut, the gorilla will let Donkey and Diddy Kong ride around the island in his Funky Barrel, free of charge. However, the barrel is unable to travel to any areas that the Kongs have not yet unlocked, thus preventing the player from skipping stages. Rather, the flight service merely serves as a bridge between the accessed areas of the Donkey Kong Island. There is a Funky's Flights in every world map of the game, and in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy Color versions, they are the only way to access the overworld map of the island, besides defeating a boss. In the same game versions, only the exterior of the hut is seen.
In the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country, the Funky's Flights was renamed Funky's Fishing and it has the same function of the SNES game version. However, as soon as the player reaches any of the locations of the service and meets Funky Kong for the first time, the Funky Barrel will also become accessible from a menu prompted in the maps of the game. In the same version, Funky also runs a free fishing minigame, being very similar to the one seen in the GBC game version. Also in the GBA version, the location now takes place inside instead of outside
Donkey Kong Land 2[]
In the game Donkey Kong Land 2, Funky's Flights appears in most of the world maps of the Crocodile Isle. The location is modeled after the Funky's Flights II from the SNES version of the game Donkey Kong Country 2, also using the Biplane Barrel, and it is the only way to access the overworld map without defeating bosses. However, when using the service in each location for the first time, the player must pay two Banana Coins, making it a free service at later uses.
DK: Jungle Climber[]
The Funky's Flights does not appear in the game DK: Jungle Climber. But Funky Kong runs his flight service once more. Here, if the player collects all Oil Barrels inside the stages of a world, they are able to prompt the Biplane Barrel in the map and fly to an extra stage. Interestingly, the instruction booklet for the game refers to the service as "Funky Flights", rather than "Funky's Flights".
Donkey Kong Country animated series[]
In the Donkey Kong Country animated series, Funky's Flights was located next to the beach and docks of the Kongo Bongo Island, and nearby the Candy Kong's Condo. The place is also Funky Kong's home and resembles a hut. It had a complex system built into that could raise the entire hut into the air and suspend it there, allowing some privacy for Funky. When it is lifted, the place below the location can be used as a gathering place for festivities or competitions. During the animated series, Funky's Flights, along with offering plane rides to island inhabitants, it also made deliveries for Bluster Kong's Barrelworks factory.
The interior of the hut of the Funky's Flights was filled with surfer memorabilia, as one would expect a place owned by Funky Kong to have, along with other objects like some couches, a circular rug, a refrigerator, a dumbbell set, a cactus and some paintings.

Trivia[]
- In the SNES and GBC versions of the game Donkey Kong Country, this is the only Kong Family member-related location to have its background be set anywhere other than what looks like the first world Kongo Jungle, which would be the residential area of Donkey Kong Island for the Kongs. It appears it is set in the game's second world, Monkey Mines.
- In the game Donkey Kong Country 2, the service was renamed Funky's Flights II and reworked. The Funky Barrel was replaced by a Biplane Barrel in the SNES version of the game, and a Gyrocopter in the GBA version. It functions in a similar way, allowing the player to access the overworld map of the Crocodile Isle. However, except for the GBA version, in each location, there is an initial fee of two Banana Coins for using the service.
- During the game Donkey Kong Country 3, Funky Kong operates the Funky's Rentals, being a service most drastically changed from the Funky's Flights, but still has its heritage. The player can rent vehicles for free which are used for exploring the main map of the Northern Kremisphere.
- In the game Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Funky Kong possesses a shop called Funky's Fly 'N' Buy, located in most of the world maps of the game. The player can exchange Banana Coins for optional collectables and assisting items in order to clear levels easily.
- The song Funky's Fugue was originally written for Rare's 1994 fighting game Killer Instinct.
