Mine Cart Carnage is the second stage of the world Monkey Mines of the Donkey Kong Island, as well as the eighth stage overall in the game Donkey Kong Country. It is preceded by Winky's Walkway and followed by Bouncy Bonanza.

Overview[]

Mine Cart Carnage is the first Mine Cart stage having Donkey and Diddy Kong ride an unstoppable Mine Cart through a long series of track rails, most of which are torn apart, meaning the two have to jump alongside their vehicle to the other side. The stage is laid out for the Mine Cart to collect items at high risk of falling off the tracks. Also, several Mine Carts can be found derailed on the tracks as well, which causes a Kong to be harmed on contact. There are also a few Krashes, Kremling enemies also riding on Mine Carts towards the opposite direction of the primates. Any contact with them must be avoided at all costs.

Except for the Game Boy Color version of the game, a convenient shortcut involves the heroes jumping over the Autofire Barrel at the beginning of the stage, and falling to the left into a Warp Barrel. The barrel shoots them near the end of the stage, before the last Krash.

Enemies[]

Collectables and Secrets[]

  • Bananas: 103
  • Red Extra Life Balloon: the red balloon is gotten by jumping over the first Krash and making an early jump to the next track to land on the below one.
  • Enguarde Animal Token: found after the "O" of the K-O-N-G Letters where the track goes up and suddenly travels down. The player must jump when going down to reach a sideways rail to get it.

K-O-N-G Letters[]

  • K: Found by jumping the first gap on the Mine Cart.
  • O: After an early slanted sideways gap.
  • N: Found along the way of the first few derailed Mine Carts.
  • G: A short distance after the fifth Krash.

Special Barrels[]

  • DK Barrels:
    • One is found right at the start of the stage.
    • The second is found near the Star Barrel.
  • Star Barrel: On the rail track after the Enguarde Animal Token.
  • Warp Barrel: Located by jumping over the starting Autofire Barrel, falling below it, and moving a little to the left. The barrel is not present in the GBC version of the game.

Photograph[]

In the Game Boy Advance version of the game, a photograph for the Scrapbook can be found above the Warp Barrel.

Trivia[]

  • The Krash found at the end of the stage is infamous for suddenly appearing and surprising the player for the first time, likely being able to harm Donkey or Diddy Kong.
  • This stage is considered harder than and even has greater length than Mine Cart Madness, other Mine Cart stage found later in the same game.
  • This stage's background later reappears in the stage Misty Mine of the same game.
