The Mirror is an item that is used during two different sidequests of the Brothers Bear in the game Donkey Kong Country 3.

Overview

In the game, the Mirror is bought from Bazaar's General Store for an expensive fifty Bear Coins. According to Bazaar himself, the Mirror belonged to Cranky Kong's great-grandfather. When purchased, it can be used at Barter's Swap Shop in exchange for a No. 6 Wrench, which is used for Björn's broken chairlifts in the world Razor Ridge.

The Mirror can be bought back from Barter for ten Bear Coins. It has a second use, for when the Kongs meet Baffle in his Code Room, he can use the Mirror to decode a secret message of how to unlock a Banana Bird Cave in the world KAOS Kore. This is an optional use, however, because the cave can be found with or without decoding the message. It can later be bought back again for another ten Bear Coins. Optionally, the player can also give the Mirror to Baffle first, although Baffle turns grumpy once the Kongs buy it back.

Trivia

  • In the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version of Donkey Kong Country 3, before receiving the Mirror, Barter will display an untidy appearance, with messy clothes. While the Mirror is in his possession, the bear will display a groomed appearance. If the player purchases the Mirror back, Barter will return to the previous messy state at later visits of his Swap Shop.
  • During posterior visits of Baffle's Code Room, after the Kongs giving the Mirror to Baffle, and the bear using it for decoding a message, the letters of his dialogues will sometimes appear in reverse order to show him playing with the code he learned. It will continue to happen even if the Mirror is purchased back by the player.
