Razor Ridge is a world of the Northern Kremisphere in the game Donkey Kong Country 3. It is considered the sixth world in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version of the game.[1] In the same version, Razor Ridge can be reached after the player clearing the world K3 and moving towards east of it. However, in the Game Boy Advance version, after clearing the worlds Cotton Top Cove and Mekanos, and unlocking the Turbo Ski, this world, Pacifica and K3 are accessible in any order according to the player's choice.

Razor Ridge is a mountainous area, with a few lakes as well. Most of the stages are mountain-themed. There are also chairlifts to carry the Kongs over the lake in the middle of the map. Barbos is the boss of the world in the SNES version, being later replaced by Kroctopus in the GBA version.

Adjacent Worlds[]

Stages[]

Buzzer Barrage[]

This is the first cave stage in the game. At the beginning of it, the primates must turn into Quawks the Parrot, traversing the majority of the stage as the flying Animal Buddy who is capable of carrying barrels. The stage contains many Buzzes and Kopters.

Kong-Fused Cliffs[]

This is the second stage of the world and a cliff type one. Throughout the stage, Dixie and Kiddy Kong must keep climbing upwards on vertical ropes set on fire by a small flame on the bottom as it reaches up to hurt them, and moving the screen alongside at certain speed. They must also avoid any aerial enemies like Buzzes and Kopters.

Floodlit Fish[]

The third stage is coral cave-themed taking place inside a dark environment. The heroes must transform into Enguarde the Swordfish, and use the aquatic Animal Buddy throughout most of the stage. Enguarde can light the location temporarily by attacking Gleamin' Breams, large yellow fish enemies, making their only appearance here in the game. Other enemies in the stage also include Kocos, Bounty Basses, and mostly Lurchins.

Pot Hole Panic[]

This is the second cave stage in the game. It consists of four sections of the Animal Buddies the Kongs can ride on, including Squawks the Parrot, Enguarde the Swordfish, Ellie the Elephant, and Squitter the Spider, in that order. The stage is also the only location of Kuchukas, Kremlings in purple barrels that toss bombs away.

Ropey Rumpus[]

This fifth stage of the world is also a cliff-themed one. Dixie and Kiddy Kong must ascend to the top of this area by climbing on horizontal ropes and avoiding Buzzes. Parry the Parallel Bird's Animal Crate can also be found at the final section of the stage.

Barbos's Barrier[]

This stage is present only in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version of the game Donkey Kong Country 3.
This boss stage is located inside an underwater coral cave. After entering it, the primates must swim towards an Animal Barrel and turn into Enguarde the Swordfish. Soon afterwards, the boss battle against Barbos, a giant Lurchin, will start. At the first chamber, the boss will send regular Lurchin upwards. Enguarde must attack them when their shells are open, making them to bounce and collide against two pink Lunchins besides Barbos. After both pink variants are defeated, the boss will open and close her shell constantly. By using good timing, Enguarde is capable to harm Barbos by hitting the weak spot, her ligament face. At the second chamber of the stage, the boss will release single Missile Shells. The aquatic enemies must be evaded by Enguarde, and they must tricked into swim towards and collide against two new pink Lurchins. It will make Barbos vulnerable against the Enguarde's charge attack again. At the final chamber, the boss will stay at the top of it, and she will open and close her shell constantly, releasing sequences of dart projectiles from her bottom half. It is advisable to avoid the attacks and wait for her ceasing to shoot briefly in order to create a window for Enguarde to hit her weak spot again. Barbos will be taken down after receiving a total of five hits, and the player will be rewarded with a single Bonus Coin.

After that, the player will be able to access the world KAOS Kore.

Kroctopus Krush[]

This stage is present only in the Game Boy Advance version of the game Donkey Kong Country 3.
The boss stage takes place on three cliffs above a small green lake. Here, the heroes face Kroctopus, a giant green octopus. The boss attacks by stretching his tentacles and trying to pinch the Kongs at regular intervals. Direct contact with any part of the Kroctopus' body will harm the primates. Soon, single living bombs will fall over one of the cliffs. In order to harm the boss, Dixie and Kiddy must attract the Kroctopus' tentacles into touching the bombs. However, the bombs will explode a few seconds after dropping down, and the same explosion can also harm the heroes when standing nearby it. After landing each three successful attacks on the boss, he will change colors, leave the screen by diving into the lake briefly, return to it, and use two or three tentacles to attack at the same time at faster speeds. The bombs will also go off quickly. Kroctopus will be defeated after taking a total of nine hits, and the player will receive a single Bonus Coin.

After also clearing the worlds Pacifica and K3, the player will gain entry to the world Kaos Kore.

Supporting Locations[]

Brothers Bear residences[]

  • Benny's Chairlift(s): Benny's service is the only way to access the stage Kong-Fused Cliffs and other locations beyond it in the same world. These chairlifts are free for the primates to use. However, when accessing the service from the west side of the world map, the heroes have always to visit the location first and talk to Benny in order to use it.
  • Björn's Chairlift(s): Björn runs a similar service to the one of his twin brother, Benny, however his chairlifts are broken. In order to fix them, the Kongs must purchase the Mirror from the Bazaar's General Store for fifty Bear Coins, and exchange it for the No. 6 Wrench at the Barter's Swap Shop. After delivering the No. 6 Wrench to Björn, the bear will allow the heroes to use the service for free in similar way to the other one in the same world. The only way of reaching the Banana Bird Cave Clifftop Cache is by using Björn's Chairlift(s).

Banana Bird Cave[]

  • Clifftop Cache: located at the northwest corner of Razor Ridge, this Banana Bird Cave becomes accessible only after fixing the Björn's Chairlift(s). The entrance is already open in the GBA version of the game.

Profiles[]

"Serrated spires scrape the bloated bellies of the clouds high above Razor Ridge. This would be a scenic place to visit if there weren't so many creepy critters running around. One of the krueler Kremlings even disabled Björn Bear's Chairlifts!"
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! Player's Guide (SNES version), page 5
"Like the mountainous K3, Razor Ridge is full of peaks and valleys. The bear brothers, Benny and Björn, run a chairlift operation here. Björn would be happy to give you a ride to the top of the ridge if you found his Number Six Wrench for him. If Barter Bear doesn't have the wrench, you might want to se if it fell intro the alpine lake in the valley."
Nintendo Power Vol. 89 (SNES version), page 37
"The airy heights of Razor Ridge are enough to quicken the pulse of the most seasoned climbers. These peaks are home to Benny and Björn, the undisputed master of chairlift tecnology. Unfortunately, Björn can't repair the Upper Ridge chair. If you could find his wrench, he might let you explore the legendary Clifftop Cache Cave."
Nintendo Power Vol. 91 (SNES version), page 60

Trivia[]

  • Despite the stage Barbos's Barrier being replaced by Kroctopus Krush in the world map of Razor Ridge of the GBA version of the game Donkey Kong Country 3, the former still appears at the end of Pacifica, an exclusive new world of the same version. The stage and the boss are very similar in appearance and gameplay when compared to the SNES version, except for Barbos taking only four hits, instead of five, in order to be defeated.
