Kiddy climbing on a rope.

Ropes act as a means of transportation commonly found in the Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Land series, introduced in the first game. Vines are similar to ropes.

Ropes were used to climb over large gaps cannot be jumped over. Rope can be climbed by simply jumping into them. Some ropes are stationary while others swing. There are various types of ropes. Plain ones swing or are stationary as stated before, but others are used in a slightly different fashion. In Donkey Kong Country, blue and purple ropes were found in Slipside Ride, and were slippery; blue ropes slip up, purple slip down.

In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, ropes new ropes were added that were climbable vertically and horizontally (pictured), and were carried onto Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. In said game, a new type of rope in the level "Konveyor Rope Klash", were constantly moving left or right like a conveyor belt, and when climbed made navigation awkward.
