Vine Chomps are blue carnivorous plants related to other Chomp types in the games Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. They are enemies that will try to devour the Kongs if they grab on their vines.

Overview[]

Vine Chomps are seen in Vine Valley and Wigglevine Wonders, both levels of the Forest world of the Donkey Kong Island. The very first Vine Chomp in both games stays hidden behind leaves at the top of the screen, leaving an unsuspected long vine for its prey to grab. If the primates hold the vine, the Vine Chomp will reveal itself, pulling in the primates slowly and attempting to eat them. Direct contact with the main bodies of these enemies does not harm the heroes, but they would get swallowed immediately. If the Kongs end up getting swallowed by a Vine Chomp, they must pound quickly in order to go away without any harm (by the player shaking the Wii Remote[1] (and Nunchuk) in the Nintendo Wii version of the game or pressing the "X" and "Y" buttons in the Nintendo 3DS version). Vine Chomps cannot be harmed by any attacks of the primates. However, considering how the heroes usually must grab on the vines of the Vine Chomps in order to progress, it is advisable for the player just to swing on them quickly and keep moving forward by jumping. If the heroes are swallowed by theses enemies right above pits, after the Kongs freeing themselves, the Vine Chomps will quickly retract their vines back to the original position, allowing the primates to grab on them again, and avoid to fall into the pits below.

Physical Appearance[]

Vine Chomps are blue in color, have six leaves around them, and have light blue dots over their bodies. They are much shorter and plumper than the other Chomps, and have no teeth, like the Shooting Chomps
