Wild Sting (ワイルド・スティング, Wairudo Sutingu in Japan), also known as Manta Ray, is the flying stingray boss of the world Gangplank Galleon Ahoy! of the Donkey Kong Island, as well as the first boss overall in the game Donkey Kong Land. The boss can be found in the level Wild Sting Fling, preceded by Arctic Barrel Arsenal and followed by Tricky Temple.

Overview[]

The boss battle takes place on a ship deck containing two elevated platforms at the edges. Wild Sting appears from the top of both sides of the screen. It attacks by swooping down at Donkey and Diddy Kong and harming them upon contact. The Kongs must avoid the boss' attacks by jumping or moving out of the way. However, Wild Sting will continue to pursue the primates by turning back, moving to the top of the screen and resuming its diving attacks. The heroes can harm Wild Sting by jumping on the boss' back. After each successful jump attack, Wild Sting will leave the screen immediately and move faster after reappearing. The Kongs must hit the boss a total of seven times in order to defeat it.

After Wild Sting is defeated, three banana bunches will drop down from the top of the screen. And the primates will be able to move to the world Kremlantis.

Physical Appearance[]

Wild Sting has two big eyes, along with its long body. It is small in size, and appears to have a hump on its back.
