|Winky the Frog|
|Homeland||Donkey Kong Island|
Winky the Frog is a one-time Animal Buddy from Donkey Kong Country who aided the Kongs during the attack on Donkey Kong Island. He is first found in the first level of Monkey Mines, where the level, Winky's Walkway, is named after him.
Donkey Kong Country
Though Winky's only playable appearance was in Donkey Kong Country, he was very helpful then. He, being a frog, had a great jumping ability, far surpassing the Kong's, and higher than any other Animal Buddy's jump. Winky also had the notable ability to be able to jump on a Zinger's head and defeat it. His jumping ability is usually used to reach bonus areas or to grab some bananas. He would later be replaced with Rattly the Rattlesnake in DKC2.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
His latest appearance was in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest's Monkey Museum. Here Winky was a background Easter Egg, though appears to be put to rest judging by how he does not move, and is on sale for $5. In the GBA remake he makes a cameo hopping around in the fight with Kudgel. Oddly, he is smaller than the Kongs.
Donkey Kong 64
He is mentioned in the game's manual. Cranky (from whose point of view the manual is written) expresses hope that Winky, along with Expresso, will appear in the game as opposed to Rambi. Contrary to this, Rambi appears in the game while Winky does not.
